Thanksgiving Grading

Posted by on October 1, 2014

Grading Update Tuesday 7 October –  The Hurley is in great shape!  Reports from drivers say it’s the best condition it has been in years.  Parts were graded last week and the remainder will be finished Wed/Thurs/Fri of this week.

Good news just in!   The Hurley will be graded before the Thanksgiving weekend!   If you see the grader working, please give him some space and be careful when passing.  The construction & road closures on the Pemberton side of the pass should be finished by today.  It’s that time of the year that heavy rain and/or snow can fall at any time now and Hurley drivers should be prepared for all conditions.

The Hurley Survey is still open.  Please complete the survey if you haven’t already done so.  This is important to the future management of this road.   Please send your Hurley updates and photos to

Have to agree about the new section. Drove down the Hurley last Tuesday evening and for the most part it was pretty good.

The east Hurley is its usual self at not great, but not bad. The middle Hurley was better but not as good as the old days, but the newly worked downhill section was very good. It was a little soft, but the work seems well worth it as long as it lasts.

The rest of the down hill was like the middle of the Hurley, so overall the road is better than it has been in the last 10 or so years, but not as good as the old days 10 or so plus years ago.

Oct 1. Have to agree with Wayne n Mag the new section is night and day from what it used to be. Looked liked they have rolled that area, certainly wasn’t musdy or rutted. Hope everyone uses 4 wheel drive going up to preserve this. They have also graded below this area and it looks like they are ditching or something further down. All in all one of the best trips in years on that road.

Oct 1. Sunny weather. Came through the Hurley today. Usual washboard on the GB end. OK up on top. The new section is super….the best we have seen it in 30 years……all the way down to 17 mile. The wait depending on when you hit it could be up to two hours. We waited 45 minutes (9:15 to 10:00). The usual down on the Pemberton side. Additional waits for paving on the way to Pemberton, but not too bad. All in all, good trip.
