Update: Multiple reports of drivers getting stuck and no prepard with a shovel or chains and relying on others to get them out. We’ve had some comments regarding the post below about downhill drivers having right of way. The Hurley is a unique road and everyone needs to use common sense when driving. The thought behind this comment was if you are driving downhill in icy ruts, it may be hard to stop to avoid a collision with an uphill driver. The vehicle coming uphill has a better chance of stopping, and they may get stuck but will avoid a collision. Drive safe and don’t drive the Hurley if you are not prepared for self rescue. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hurley has a 1 vehicle path through the pass; high clearance, chains and a shovel are advised. Temperature was -20 this morning.
Please remember the vehicle travelling downhill has the right of way.

If you choose to drive the Hurley at this time of the year be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and winter driving conditions.  Winter driving skills, 4\u00d74, chains and good snow tires are essential for travel.  A survival\/safety kit are good things to carry in your truck.   Conditions can change fast at anytime up there with the fluctuating temperatures & weather.  Current conditions may not be reported on this site.  Have a safe drive and watch out for snowmobiles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
