We hope it will be a learning experience on how to share the road with moose and other wildlife. Driving to Pemberton yesterday we were behind a vehicle that was following a moose and running it down the road. The moose would not get off the road so the vehicle attempted to pass the moose while it was running. The moose freaked out and spun around and charged head on at a side x side which managed to swerve and missed the moose by inches. The moose was salivating profusely, and steam was rising off her body after running for who knows how many kilometres. She was very confused about how to escape but eventually exited down the slope after giving her about 3 minutes of rest time.

Moose are notorious for not sharing the road and will run in front of a vehicle until exhausted and confused, like this moose. If you are lucky enough to see a moose, stop or slow your vehicle and give the moose lots of space and let it leave the road when it is ready. Never attempt to pass a running moose! Enjoy the moment and appreciate being so close to such a magnificent animal. There’s no better excuse for being late than a moose jam on the road!

The mud section at the summit is still bad and 4×4 is recommended to get through. Reports of cars being stuck and having to be towed out by trucks.

This site is based on Hurley driver updates so please email new road conditions to info@bridgerivervalley.ca or post in the comments below.

Support this website and order your Hurley t-shirts, bumper stickers, can coolers & new trucker hats. Click here to purchase Hurley merchandise. Thank you for your road updates and support and please slow down and drive responsibly.

Thanks to Ian and Beth for sharing their story and video.
