With the considerable cooling at night and the snowmelt not happening as fast as expected and the 8-9′ of snow at the summit, this amount of work would be considerably more than the traditional $15K that is used to open the road and therefore have an impact on the summer grading schedule. That, coupled with the cost of fuel having risen so much, the impact of higher hourly rates for equipment also has an impact as our annual budget for the Hurley has remained unchanged. We can expect to be creative with the grading as we are expecting a hot, dry summer which may necessitate that we have a water truck work with the grader. This too will have an impact on the budget. Or, we grade immediately following any rainfall that the road receives. As rain doesn’t follow a schedule, it most likely wouldn’t be at the regularly scheduled grading time. Sal is going to search for extra funding opportunities to cover the summer grading. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
BJ and Sal made the call to start clearing snow and Scott Holden will be moving his equipment out on Sunday. Do not attempt to drive the Hurley while clearing is happening. As soon as an opening day is known, it will be posted here. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
Sal had a conversation on Friday with BJ Moore about opening during these challenging times.
