Its the time of year when all of us want to know when the Hurley is going to be open.
Dir. Sal DeMare was in touch today (May 3) with ministry officials to find out the status of the snow clearing beginning.
According to Ministry officials, the avalanche tech advises that as of late last week (April 27/28) the chutes on Green Mtn. were still full and posted a threat to the Hurley FSR. But he also said that he though that with last weekend’s weather that maybe as soon as Wednesday (May 3) it may release and clean themselves out. He is flying again Friday to check to see if there is still a threat of if it has passed.
Ministry officials also advise that the Ministry is poised ready to go with their contractor and will wait to see what the recent reports are of how much is still at the summit. They advise that this will tell them when they can start plowing to meet the opening objective.
More to come this Friday or Monday. Thanks to the Ministry and Dir. DeMare for working to keep us in the loop.
