Update on this post Nov 1st: Kathy from Backcountry Snowcats reports 65cm at the summit and chains are recommended, especially going north. The vehicles we encountered (from Goldbridge) kept going only because they couldn’t turn around.
Thanks to Christine Spierings for the latest update and photo from last night. To give you an idea of how much more snow is probably up there since this drive, we received 12mm of rain in the valley last night and another 6mm today.
Drove up Hurley evening of Oct 31. Snow dusting on the ground started at about 12km on Pemberton side. Accumulated pretty quick. The pass was the worst but it had been driven through so tire tracks to follow. It was about 10-12 inches. We got through with F150 and winter tires. All went well but with a couple of slippery sections. Snow was gone and raining by 23km on Pemberton side still. It’s trying to snow now Sat morning at Gun so Hurley is likely a lot different now. Chains recommended!
If you choose to drive the Hurley at this time of the year be prepared to experience all kinds of weather and winter driving conditions. Winter driving skills, 4×4, chains and good snow tires are essential for travel. A survival/safety kit are good things to carry in your truck. Conditions can change fast at anytime up there with the fluctuating temperatures & weather. Current conditions may not be reported on this site. Have a safe drive.
